the sanctuary is a first-of-its-kind creative sanctuary designed to serve as a retreat, residency center, and luxury arts resort—exclusively for Black artists, by Black artists. Located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, this resort will function as a self-sustaining ecosystem that nurtures artistic brilliance, healing, and economic sustainability through art.

Black Abundance is already launching a global movement through our 2026 programs including the Oasis & Alchemy Retreat, Black Breath Artist Residency, and the Black Abundance Festival. The Arts Resort expands this vision into a permanent, revenue-generating institution rooted in Black artistic sovereignty.

Our Vision

We are building a world where Black artistic excellence is centered, celebrated, and sustained through global sanctuaries. These sanctuaries are not only places of rest and creation—they are engines of collective power, wealth-building, and cultural transformation.

the sanctuary will:

• Host year-round retreats and residencies for Black artists.

• Serve as a luxury arts and wellness destination open to the public.

• Generate sustainable income to support emerging and established Black creatives.

Three Core Components

The Retreat:

An immersive short-term experience for Black artists, cultural workers, and creative leaders seeking restoration, inspiration, and growth.

• Hosted as seasonal cohorts (7–10 days)

• Features include: wellness practices, artistic workshops, masterclasses with renowned artists, nature excursions, and community-building

• Expands on our flagship program, Oasis & Alchemy

The Residency Center:

A long-form incubator for deep creative exploration.

• Artists stay 3–8 weeks with full room, board, and studio access

• Includes fellowships, project mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration

• Outcomes may include exhibitions, performances, or works-in-progress sharings

• Based on the model of the Black Breath Artist Residency

The Arts Resort:

A luxury destination for Black travelers, art lovers, and culture seekers.

• Features: on-site spa, restaurant, gallery, performance spaces, boutique shop, and curated cultural experiences

• Open to the public year-round

• Revenue directly supports retreat and residency programs
