WELCOME TO BLACK ABUNDANCE.

Our Mission:

BLACK ABUNDANCE EXISTS TO CELEBRATE, CULTIVATE, AND SUSTAIN THE BOUNDLESS BRILLIANCE OF BLACK ARTISTS WORLDWIDE. THROUGH RETREATS, RESIDENCIES, FESTIVALS, AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, WE CREATE SACRED SPACES WHERE BLACK ARTISTS CAN REST, CREATE, AND BUILD ACROSS BORDERS. WE BELIEVE IN ART AS A TOOL FOR LIBERATION, HEALING, AND COLLECTIVE POWER - FUELING A MOVEMENT WHERE BLACK CREATIVITY ISN’T JUST SEEN, BUT DEEPLY NOURISHED AND SUSTAINED FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.

Our Programs

BLACK BREATH: the residency

A dedicated residency for Black artists exploring liberation, rest, healing, and creative renewal. This program offers time, resources, and a supportive community for artists to deepen their craft and vision without the pressures of production. Black Breath is an incubator for ideas, artistry, and radical community-care.

Oasis & Alchemy: the retreat

Oasis & Alchemy is a transformative arts retreat designed to replenish, empower, and inspire Black artists. Rooted in rest, creativity, collective growth, and mentorship, we provide a sanctuary in Costa Rica where artists can rejuvenate their spirits and refine their craft. Through intentional restoration and artistic exchange, Oasis & Alchemy nurtures Black brilliance—offering a space where art and healing intersect!

With immersive workshops, artist-led healing experiences, movement sessions, community panels, live performances, and curated art installations, the festival nurtures the full spectrum of Black creative expression. It is a space where Black artists are deeply nourished, honored, and held. This annual gathering brings together Black artists from across the diaspora to rest, create, and connect.

the sanctuary: ARTS residency, RETREAT, & Resort

A long-term vision to build a permanent sanctuary where Black artists can heal, gather, train, network, create, and experience deep rejuvenation. This center will serve as an international hub for Black creativity, offering residencies, workshops, festivals, cultural exchanges and a luxury Black arts resort to sustain and elevate Black artists worldwide.

our vision:

We are building a world where GLOBAL SANCTUARIES THRIVE FOR BLACK ARTISTS - WHERE WE CAn GATHER, heal, CREATE, TRAIN, REST, MENTOR, AND EXPERIENCE JOY WITHOUT LIMITATION.

These sanctuaries are more than physical spaces—they are ecosystems of care, creativity, and self-determination. They are artist residencies, retreat centers, festivals, and creative hubs that exist across the globe, connecting Black artists across borders. They are places where Black creatives can escape the limitations imposed by their industries and instead find nourishment, funding, mentorship, and ownership.

From Costa Rica to Brooklyn, our sanctuaries are rooted in Black artistic sovereignty. They are places where we create without censorship, without the external gaze, and without the pressure to conform to external validation. They are spaces of deep restoration, intergenerational knowledge-sharing, and radical joy—where Black artists don’t just dream, but build.

Through retreats, residencies, festivals, and the development of a permanent arts retreat center in Costa Rica, we are weaving together a network of spaces where Black artistic brilliance is protected, expanded, and passed down for generations to come.

This is more than a vision. It is a blueprint for Black Abundance.

Because Black art has always transformed the world.

Now, it’s time for us to own, protect, and amplify that power—for ourselves, for our communities, for generations to come.

Our values:

Black Artistic Sovereignty

We believe in Black artists owning their work, their industries, and their futures. We are not here to ask for permission—we are here to build, sustain, and protect the institutions that amplify our brilliance on our own terms.

Abundance Over Scarcity

Black creativity is limitless. We reject the idea that there are only a few spaces for us to thrive. We are cultivating a world where Black artists have endless opportunities to rest, create, and flourish.

Rest as Resistance

Rest is a radical act of self-determination. We create sanctuaries where Black artists can slow down, breathe, and restore themselves without guilt or grind culture. Rest fuels creativity.

Community Over Competition

We believe in Black artists mentoring, uplifting, and building with each other, not competing for crumbs. Our work is rooted in collaboration, intergenerational knowledge-sharing, and collective growth.

Art as Liberation

Black art has always been a tool for resistance, healing, and transformation. We create spaces where artists can explore their creativity without censorship, without limits, and without the external gaze shaping their narratives.

Economic Power for Black Artists

Black artists deserve financial stability, funding, and wealth-building opportunities. We are committed to creating funding pipelines, sustainable careers, and spaces where Black artists are compensated equitably for their brilliance.

Global Black Connection

Black creativity is diasporic. From Costa Rica to Brooklyn, from Lagos to London, we are building bridges for Black artists across borders to collaborate, create, and thrive without limitation.

Radical Imagination & Joy

We believe in dreaming beyond survival and envisioning a world where Black artists experience joy, freedom, and boundless possibility. Black joy is sacred, and we cultivate it in everything we do.

These values are the foundation of Black Abundance. We are building the future Black artists deserve—one rooted in ownership, rest, and radical creativity.

MEET OUR CEO:

Nana Chinara

Founder's Story: The Birth of Black Abundance

I have spent my life creating, building, and reclaiming spaces where Black artists can heal, create, and thrive. Spaces where we flourish in our fullness, our power, our abundance.

I came into this world a storyteller, a mover, a vessel for something bigger than myself. I have made art in living rooms, on Bed-Stuy stoops, at the Brooklyn Museum with my mama. I have danced in high school musicals and college dance studios. And yet, like so many of us, I spent years fighting to return to my body—learning what it means to heal in community, to reclaim my power, to center pleasure, rest, and creative liberation.

That journey led me to found Healing the Black Body, an organization that wove Black Feminism, movement, and performance into a practice of healing for Black queer and trans communities. It led me to burlesque, where I learned to call all my power back to me. It led me to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, where I first arrived heartbroken, burned out, and seeking rest—only to find home.

And now, it has led me here—to Black Abundance.

Black Abundance was born from a simple but radical truth: Black art has always healed the world.

And I believe it's time we have the space, time, and freedom to let it heal us, too.

My vision is to build global sanctuaries for Black artists—spaces where we can rest, create, and rise. Where we are deeply resourced, cared for, and surrounded by beauty. Black Abundance is how we bring that vision to life.

Through retreats, residencies, and a healing arts festival in Costa Rica, we are building sacred, generative spaces where Black artists can gather across borders, honor their rhythms, and grow their work in community. From immersive retreats that replenish the body, to residencies that incubate radical creativity, to a festival that celebrates the fullness of our expression—Black Abundance is here to celebrate, cultivate, and sustain Black artistic brilliance.

We are not just imagining liberation—we are building it.
One sanctuary, one story, one offering at a time.

I have built this from a full-body yes. A knowing that this work is not just necessary—it is inevitable. We are building the future we deserve. And we are doing it on our own terms.

Welcome to Black Abundance. Welcome home.
